Pendred Hygiene for Cold Water Humidification Systems

A range of solutions

Norman Pendred and Company utilises a variety of technologies to both filter, de-mineralise and manage bacteria levels within their Moisture Maintenance installations. Combined with regular servicing and maintenance this provides a hygienic and efficient system.

Water Purification
Water should be de-mineralised to ensure trouble-free operation and to minimise Lime-scale build-up in Moisture Maintenance equipment or display counters. The chemical and particle content of water is also controlled through water filtration and de-mineralisation.

Reverse Osmosis
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is the process in which water is forced by pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. Water passes through the membrane while the dissolved and particulate materials are removed. The feed water is separated into two streams: the permeate, which passes through the membrane, and the concentrate, which retains the rejected ions, organics and suspended particles.

Unlike regular filtration where contaminates are held within or on the filter surface, in Reverse osmosis solutes and solids are swept away with the concentrate stream, eliminating frequent membrane filter changes. The percentage of feed water which is recovered as permeate or product water, called recovery, typically ranges from 33 to 60 per cent.

Air Purification
It is important that clean air is used in 'AirSpray' Humidification or 'Fogging' Systems. The removal of dirt, dust and bacteria from air can be achieved in a number of ways.

The ambient air in food processing plants and retail stores is affected by the type of food. Meat Maturation rooms, Meat Processing plants and Meat Departments in retail outlets pose the greatest challenge.

Integrated Systems to manage and control bacteria etc.
All moisture maintenance systems use water and the bacteriological content of the water must be managed. This is achieved through technologies such as Ultra Violet Radiation, Oxidation by Ozone or Chlorine dioxide and Pasteurisation through heat treatment. In addition microbial growth suppression is achieved through its use within a refrigerated environment.

There are a number of technologies used to achieve the necessary levels of hygiene. The method applied varies depending on the system in operation. We can offer:

* De-mineralisation to soften water and reduce lime scale in equipment
* Softening of water to promote re-hydration of plants, vegetables & salads
* Water Filtration to remove solids from city water
* Particle Filtration to remove solids from city water
* Activated Carbon Filters to remove chemicals from city water
* Reverse Osmosis to reduce the mineral content from city water
* Chlorine Dioxide to seek out and destroy bacteria in air, water and equipment
* Ion Systems to seek out and destroy bacteria in water and equipment
* Pasteurisation to reduce the levels of bacteria in water and equipment
* Ozone to seek out and destroy bacteria in air, water and equipment
* Ultra Violet Radiation to reduce the levels of bacteria in air and water
* Bactericidal Coatings
